Preface

This story is dedicated to my Grandson, William Augustine Fradd who was born on the 10^th of January 2008 in Sligo, County Sligo, Ireland.
 

To forget one's ancestors is to be a brook without a source, a tree without a root - Chinese Proverb

The compiler of this imperfect family history has not attempted to extend his research beyond Fradd ancestors to other names although some deviation has occurred.
 

If this genealogy as it stands need apology, let it be understood that its purpose is a modest one, to preserve the material laboriously gathered, in the hope that at some future time a more able genealogist may carry on and update this work to its completion.
 

The one claim made for the records here presented is that they are reasonably reliable. In the few instances where a large probability takes the place of certainty, a full explanation is given. The writer has been led step by step to undertake this work. Beginning in the year 2000 in trying to trace back his own line of descent, his field of research has constantly widened, until he has gathered more or less complete records of the several separate Fradd families.
 

Each family is distinct from the others. In Australia, at least, so far as is known, most families are related. There will be links that can never be proven, but due to the close proximity of families in the same area, it is likely that they are related.
 

It is not known whether the ancestors of these several families were related; that is, whether all of them were descended from a common ancestor. It is only known that men of the name may be found in many parts of Great Britain today, and in other countries such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and The United States of America.
 

Yet in England, as in Australia, Fradd is not a common surname.

With this brief introduction the writer would submit these records to all the men of his name, hopeful that they may prove of value. And he would make one request most earnestly. If the reader discovers errors or omissions, and doubtless such occur, he will confer a great favour by correcting and saving any additions or corrections.
 

Whether a single initial or a date or a whole family be omitted or wrongly entered, the compiler of these pages wishes you to make corrections whenever opportunity may offer. He knows there are large omissions in these records, but he has vainly used every means in his power to gain the information needed to fill them.

 

For such omissions he should not be held responsible. In conclusion, the writer would extend his sincere thanks to all who have so cordially co-operated with him in gathering the facts and records contained in the following pages.
